DSC Delivers Dredge to Nigeria
DSC Dredge LLC delivered an 18-inch x 18-inch Marlin Class dredge and workboat to a contractor in Nigeria for channel dredging land development and reclamation and mining sharp sand out of the Nigerian rivers.
The dredge has a digging capacity of 23 meters and can operate year-round including during the wet season when the rivers rise. It is powered by Caterpillar diesel engines with more than 1500 hp and a Metso submersible dredge pump.
Dredging benefits Nigerian communities by removing silt from the river channels for vessel traffic and then using the dredged material to build up the low river banks and reclaim unusable land. The sharp sand mining provides material for infrastructure projects.
Each DSC Marlin Class dredge designed for deep mining and aggregate deposits is also designed to handle a particular deposit – from sand and gravel to industrial minerals. An underwater pump system with a high torque cutter drive assembly allows the dredge to dig deeply.
