BRP Issues Engine Safety Recall

In November 2013 BRP US Inc. announced a safety recall for after sales Evinrude/Johnson remote control devices. If installed incorrectly they can result in loss of boat control.

According to the recall the ICON binnacle mount control supplier incorrectly assembled a limited number of control levers which may allow the lever to separate from the mounting base resulting in loss of throttle and shift control.

BRP contacted all known registered owners of factory-built ICON engines and encouraged them to contact their authorized dealer to schedule a service appointment. The problem can be fixed by replacing the control.

Tom Verna of the Corps of Engineers Navigation Center and WEDA Safety Commission chairman said it appears the recall is limited to outboard motors. He said the recall is probably most relevant to smaller boats being use at locks dams outfall canals lakes and recreational waterways.
