Corps Proposes New District Boundaries

The Corps of Engineers has proposed realigning the boundaries of the Louisville and Detroit Districts for regulatory function.

The existing boundary follows the watershed boundary. The realignment would coincide with county boundaries and would simplify the permit application process.

Under this proposal the Louisville District would assume full regulatory responsibility in Adams Wells Pulaski White and Benton counties in Indiana. The Detroit District would assume full regulatory responsibility in Allen Whitley Kosciusko Noble Marshall Starke and Jasper counties in Indiana.

The Corps said realignment along these county boundaries would provide an efficient way for all involved parties to identify the correct District. Only the duties under the regulatory authorities identifi ed above would be transferred. All Civil Works projects (such as Planning Studies and Lake Projects) would continue with the original district. At this time LaPorte County Indiana will continue to be shared by the Chicago and Detroit Districts. The current confi guration allows the Chicago regulatory boundaries to be in line with its District’s civil works boundaries. It will also provide better consistency by having one District handle all coastal issues for the state of Indiana.
