Teledyne Acquires RESON
Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced on March 1 that it had completed the acquisition of RESON A/S. Reson headquartered in Slangerup Denmark provides high resolution marine acoustic imaging and measurement solutions. The acquired company will operate under the name Teledyne RESON. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With more than 30 years of experience and approximately 1400 echosounders sold worldwide Reson provides multibeam sonar systems and acoustic sensors for hydrography global marine infrastructure and offshore energy operations. Reson’s multibeam sonar systems range from portable high resolution shallow water systems used on autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to full ocean depth vessel mounted oceanographic systems.
“Reson is our thirteenth acquisition in our marine instrumentation group which provides sonar systems acoustic sensors and communication devices harsh environment interconnects and complete autonomous underwater vehicles” said Robert Mehrabian chairman president and chief executive officer of Teledyne.
“With the addition of Reson as well as BlueView and Optech last year Teledyne now offers 3D marine imaging systems for use from aircraft fixed platforms surface vessels and AUVs over a wide range of distances and water depths. We are also working to integrate terrestrial and marine imagery as well as enhance our ability to deliver in addition to an image specific information about objects the land and seafloor and the water column” Mahrabian added.
Teledyne Technologies provides instrumentation digital imaging products and software aerospace and defense electronics and engineered systems. Teledyne Technologies’ operations are primarily located in the United States Canada the United Kingdom and Mexico.
Teledyne Adds Mini Sonar
Teledyne BlueView also announced the addition of two new options in its mini M Series 2D Multibeam Imaging Sonar. They are lightweight with a built-in 10 degree down-angle which reduces the M Series weight by 30 percent to 3.4 lbs. in the air with a near neutral buoyancy in water.
Teledyne said the built-in 10 degree down-angle improves imaging of the bottom or surface targets without having to tip the sonar or platform downward.
Teledyne BlueView supplies 2D and 3D multibeam imaging sonar technology. Deployed on AUVs ROVs manned submersibles surface vessels diver handheld systems and portable marine tripods Teledyne BlueView’s advanced sonar systems support mission-critical underwater operations.
Seatronics Adds SeaBats to Fleet
Seatronics purchased four Reson SeaBat 7125-ROV2's six ROV2 upgrades with G5 processors and two SeaBat 7101’s. Seatronics now owns 28 ROV2 systems 10 of which have a G5 processor prepared for X-Range and Full Rate Dual Head. During 2012 Seatronics purchased nine new systems and 10 upgrades among those eight SeaBat 7125-ROV2s and two SeaBat 8125Hs.
Seatronics’ four new 7125 ROV2 systems come with a G5 processor which enables the X-range and Full Rate Dual Head capabilities. Those two features are part of Reson’s Feature Pack 3 which is available for the SeaBat 7125-SV2 and the SeaBat 7125-ROV2.
