NWC Announces Legislative Summit

The National Waterways Conference will hold its Legislative Summit on March 12 and 13 at the Madison Hotel in Washington D.C.

Attendees will hear from high-ranking federal officials and industry leaders about the policy and program expectations for the coming year.

“High on the agenda in both the House and the Senate is a water resources development act (WRDA) to ensure robust investments in the nation’s water resources infrastructure” stated an NWC news release. “A WRDA is expected to include funding mechanisms for both the inland waterways and the harbor maintenance trust funds a levee safety program and reforms to the Corps of Engineers’ planning and project delivery process. How the Congress will deal with specific project authorizations remains uncertain as debate continues on how the legislative branch can play an active role in the decisions relating to investments in the nation’s infrastructure” the release continued.

“The fiscal cliff agreement will frame the policy and fiscal environment in this term and for years to come. While the agreement addresses tax cuts the issue of how to deal with the looming across-the-board spending cuts has merely been delayed for two months forcing the new Congress to consider the divisive issue of spending priorities almost immediately” said the release.
