Los Angeles Container Volumes Highest in Two Years
The Port of Los Angeles has released its September 2012 cargo volumes. Overall volumes increased 5.57 percent compared to September 2011. It was the strongest single-month in overall volumes since August 2010.
Imports increased 3.38 percent from 372655 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers in September 2011 to 385250 TEUs this September. Exports decreased 2.56 percent from 176954 TEUs in September 2011 to 172432 TEUs in September 2012.
Combined total loaded imports and exports for August increased 1.47 percent from 549609 TEUs last September to 557683 TEUs in September 2012. Factoring in empties which increased 20.01 percent year over year overall September 2012 volumes (744923) increased 5.57 percent compared to September 2012 (705623 TEUs). It was the busiest month since August 2010 when overall volumes reached 763837 TEUs.
For the first nine months of 2012 overall container volumes have increased 5.16 percent (6188172 TEUs) compared to the same period in 2011 (5884347 TEUs).
