GPS Signals Endangered

AEM recently hosted a briefing of industry groups and DC-based member companies regarding a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) interim decision on the bandwidth adjacent to the GPS spectrum. The FCC granted a waiver for a new company to build a new broadband network over the objections of industry groups and federal agencies. The groups feel the new spectrum network runs too close to the GPS spectrum and could cause significant interference. A major concern is the new company itself was put in charge of the process and given only a few months to evaluate the interference issue.

GPS providers believe this issue needs to be studied objectively and much more extensively than this time will allow. AEM has joined a coalition of concerned associations and business to ensure that GPS users concerns are heard by the FCC.
