McCain Moves to Repeal Jones Act
The Maritime Executive today reported that Senator John McCain has introduced legislation to repeal the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 commonly known as the Jones Act. McCain called the act “a law that hinders free trade and favors labor unions over consumers.”
In the article Sen. McCain claimed that the U.S. turned down offers of overseas help in responding to the Deepwater Horizon disaster on April 20 citing the restrictions of the Merchant Marine Act.
