DUTCH DREDGING CONTRACTS
INTERNATIONAL DREDGING CONTRACTS
Van Oord and Boskalis received two coastal defense contracts in the Netherlands for a total of €48 million. They are for beach nourishment in the Voorne region for the Hollandse Delta Water Board and for dune reinforcement and beach nourishment in Zeeland and in Nolle-Westduin (Walcheren region) for the Dutch Department of Public Works and Water Management.
The projects are part of the Public Works’ ‘Weak Links’ (‘Zwakke Schakels’) program — sections of coast that will need to be reinforced before 2020 to satisfy hinterland flood safety requirements in the event of a rise in sea level or an increase in storm frequency and to meet new wave boundary conditions.
Van Oord finished reinforcing the Hondsbossche and Pettemer coastal defense this spring and is now working on reinforcing the Delfland Coast between Hoek van Holland and Scheveningen-Zuid.
