Knudsen Supplies Arctic Sensors

Knudsen Engineering Limited (KEL) has received a contract from International Submarine Engineering (ISE) of Port Coquitlam British Columbia Canada to supply arctic sensors for installation on two new ISE Explorer Class autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).

The sonar systems will used to collect survey data from the pair of mini submarines in support of Canada’s quest to secure sovereignty over a swath of the polar seabed north and west of Ellesmere Island.

“The challenges of arctic acoustics are not new to Knudsen and we are pleased our unique background and expertise has enabled our sonar technology to be chosen for such a critical project” said Judith Knudsen V.P. of Operations and Marketing.

The company has maintained a presence in the arctic since the 1980’s delivery of systems to the Canadian Hydrographic Service for use in through-ice survey mapping missions. This technology lead and active presence in the Arctic has also resulted in installation of Knudsen low frequency chirp systems on U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers as well as Canada Fisheries & Oceans vessels doing research and navigation in deep often ice-covered waters.
