First WEDA Brazil Chapter Meeting Held In Rio de Janeiro November 2007

Attendees at the Brazil Chapter meeting of the Western Dredging Association (WEDA) heard 31 technical papers during the three-day event held December 9 through 12 2007. Twenty companies brought exhibits to the conference which was attended by approximately 200 people.

The meeting was held at the Intercontinental Hotel Rio de Janeiro.

The attendees were mostly from Brazil however 11 other countries were represented said Larry Patella executive director of WEDA including Argentina Canada Colombia Finland the Netherlands the U.S. and Venezuela.

A boat tour in the Rio de Janeiro harbor was featured Sunday the first day of the conference.

Monday morning Paulo Rodriguez event host and WEDA board member welcomed the group to Brazil.

Included in the program was a site tour to a dredging project conducted by Jan de Nul. The site tour was limited to Brazilian citizens for security reasons.

At the closing ceremonies Wednesday Paulo Rodriguez announced that a 2008 meeting of the chapter is planned for December 2008 in Sao Paulo and Ram Mohan presented the best paper awards.
