David A. Murray joined the Waterways Journal as a staff writer in April 2008. He worked as an ordinary seaman and able-bodied seaman in the merchant marine for ten years, mostly “blue-water” but including stints on two Mississippi River towboats. He has written freelance for over ten years, and taught writing and literature at Maryville University for 18 years.
